The good, the bad and the ugly – Re-visited! The role of social media in employee behaviour

Computer-Mediated Communication has changed the way we communicate in organizations. Social media have even accelerated this organizational change. The current research talk will elaborate on the good, bad, and possible ugly consequences of social media in organizations. We will start with a brief distinction between different approaches to explaining social media in organizations. Further, for all three topics current research will be examined. We will end with some challenging ideas for future research.

JOS BARTELS is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies, School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University. His research activities focus mainly on quantitative studies on social media usage, organizational identification, and negative and positive employee behaviour.
