Under the auspices of the RGC PROCORE-France/Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme, Hong Kong Baptist University’s School of Communication is hosting a two-day conference titled “Revisiting Digital Public Diplomacy in a Post-pandemic World: Chinese and French Perspectives.” This event will delve into how digital transformation is reshaping public diplomacy between China and France, spotlighting pioneering methodologies and evolving theoretical frameworks.
“This conference is a hub for trailblazing discussions on digital diplomacy, merging innovative approaches in cross-cultural diplomacy, public perception, and the socio-political impacts of digital technologies to redefine both theoretical and practical approaches,” says Celine Song, Associate Dean of the School and convener of the event. Opening the conference are Mr. Benjamin Hubin, Deputy French Consul General, and Professor Martin Ding Fat Wong, Provost of Hong Kong Baptist University, who will set the stage for a dynamic exploration of digital diplomacy’s evolving methodologies and theoretical insights.
Distinguished speakers from Hong Kong Baptist University, Université Paris Nanterre, Université Gustave Eiffel, and the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, including Professor Marta Severo, Professor Eleni Mouratidou, Professor Bu Zhong, Professor Daya Thussu, and Dr. Alexandre Huang, will address topics such as the role of science and culture in diplomacy, shifts in global communication dynamics, and the impact of social media on public diplomacy. Highlights include fireside discussions and interactive panels that promise to engage participants in both practical applications and theoretical advancements, offering insights into how digital diplomacy is evolving across cultural contexts and digital landscapes.
